October The implementation of action section of the SDP will continue throughout the session
Continue implementation of three-year audit strategy, ensuring full involvement of staff, parents and pupils as appropriate
Where appropriate, update audit section of SDP

During October schools should in:
 
Learning & Teaching
  • informal observation of classroom practice
  • monitor pupil attendance statistics and discipline logs
  • sample pupils work [ see attached Guidance notes on sampling]
  • formal sample of staff / pupil / parent views e.g. homework
Attainment
  • discuss setting of 5-14 targets in reading writing and maths for each pupil in P1 based on prior learning
  • collective staff discussion of 5-14 targets in reading, writing and maths for each stage
  • compare school and authority attainment as at previous June with National statistics – share with staff
Self-evaluation
  • publish and implement programme of Professional Development and Review for staff
  • monitor progress of action taken against criteria for success
  • update Review & Audit sections as appropriate, share with stakeholders
Administration
  • set SEN/IEP targets
  • report back on last session's SEN/IEP progress
  • report to PMU on first term's exclusions and any absences in excess of 20 days
  • end of October complete and return to PMU Other Languages Spoken survey
